A structured program, not a one-off chat
Weight is rarely a single-conversation topic. It touches the conditions you are already managing, the medicines you already take, your sleep, your schedule, and the realities of life in Markham. Our weight management service is built as an ongoing program with three parts — a comprehensive assessment, practical guidance, and regular monitoring — so there is always a next step rather than a one-time conversation and silence afterwards.
We will not promise a number on the scale, push fad products, or assume what you should weigh.
What the program includes
1. A comprehensive assessment
Your first appointment is a full review, not an intake form:
- Your complete medicine and supplement list — including anything from other pharmacies. Several common medicines influence weight as a side effect, and knowing which ones you take changes what realistic looks like.
- Related conditions — blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cholesterol, sleep quality, joint pain. Managing these well often makes everything else more achievable.
- What you have already tried, what worked, and what did not.
- Your goals in your words — not a target we hand you.
2. Practical lifestyle guidance
We are pharmacists, not dietitians, and we will say so plainly. What we can offer is the perspective of a clinician who sees this neighbourhood up close: how to think about eating patterns, movement, sleep and alcohol without turning your life upside down, and how to tell which change is worth making first. When a registered dietitian is the right call, we will say so and point you to one.
3. Ongoing monitoring
This is the part most people are missing. Between appointments with your doctor, we can:
- Check blood pressure and review your readings over time.
- Go through injection technique properly, in person, if your plan involves it.
- Help you work through side effects early, before they become a reason to quit.
- Keep a simple running record of your progress you can bring to your next doctor’s appointment.
- Flag anything that should be raised with your care team sooner rather than later.
Working alongside your doctor
We do not start, change, or stop weight-management medicines — your doctor or nurse practitioner does. Newer treatments in this area are powerful and need proper medical oversight, and that oversight belongs with the person who can order the right tests and follow your full history.
Where we fit is the space in between: the day-to-day questions, the technique, the side effect at 8pm on a Tuesday, the coverage paperwork, and the honest conversation about cost and supply. Patients who have both tend to do better than patients who have only one.
What it costs
The initial consultation is a private, fee-based service — it is not OHIP-covered. We will quote you the fee before you commit to anything, and there is never a purchase expected. Some extended health plans reimburse pharmacist consultations; bring your plan details and we will help you check.
Who this is for
Book a consultation if: you are starting to think seriously about your weight and want a healthcare professional in your corner; you already have a plan from your doctor and want someone local to help you stick with it; you manage diabetes, blood pressure or another condition where weight is a factor; or you want to walk into your next doctor’s appointment prepared with the right questions.
Talk to your doctor first if: you have rapid unexplained weight change, distress around eating, or symptoms that might point to an underlying condition. For mental-health support around weight or eating, a family doctor, registered dietitian or mental-health professional should lead — we are glad to be part of the team, not the front of it.
